Review: Ghost Tours of Quebec

Quebec City at night

I’m lucky my family is as weird as I am!

Rick has come to love me booking ghost tours when we travel but I don’t have to convince my family to book them – they do it themselves!

Since it’s spooky season, I thought it would be fun to revisit a ghost tour we did earlier this year when we went with my family up to Canada and we explored the capital city of Quebec: Quebec City.

Aptly named, I must say.

Quebec City ghost tour review

When we were in Quebec City, we went on a dark history tour of the city, which focused more on true tales than things going bump in the night. We went with Ghost Tours of Quebec or Les Visites Fantomes de Quebec.

Highlights:

  • We learned what would happen if the early citizens were found guilty of treason
  • We heard about a cursed Captain Kendall and the Empress of Ireland that sank in 1914 and came with it the loss of over 1,000 lives
  • Learning about the tortured executioner who was in for a surprise on the gallows
  • Hearing about the witch and the interesting way she was confined for her crimes
  • Visiting the haunted homes built on top of smallpox cemeteries
  • Hearing the horrifying story of a woman’s worst nightmare come to life in the graveyard

It was a neat tour that focused heavily on the true history and true crime of Quebec City’s past but did have a few stories of ghostly apparitions or unexplainable phenomena happening in certain homes.

This is a great option if you’re looking for a mix of history and hauntings.

Our 8 p.m. tour was also in English.

Group size & pace

My family alone counted for six people on this group tour! I’d estimate there were 15-20 of us on the tour so a good sized group but not overwhelmingly large.

Booking information

  • Duration: 90-minute walking tour
  • Distance: About a mile, walking tour

This was a good 90-minute walking tour and we definitely were walking on this ghost tour all over the hills of Quebec City and down to the waterfront.

Tips for the Quebec City ghost tour

  • Wear comfortable shoes: This is a walking tour and you will be going up and down some steep inclines. Wear good shoes that can handle the terrain.
  • Bring water: Stay hydrated! Bring some water to carry with you in case you need a spirit or two after hearing about the spirits of Quebec City!
  • Bring an umbrella or jacket: The tour is completely outside so prepare for the weather.
  • Charge your phone before the tour: You stop at some picturesque buildings on this tour and you may be taking quite a few photos, especially if you’re trying to catch an orb or two.
  • Tip your guide: Lastly, like we always say, if you enjoyed your tour be sure to show your appreciation to the guide.
