Review: H10 Villa de la Reina in Madrid

At the end of 2024 we were fortunate enough to find ourselves returning to what quickly became a travel destination we knew we’d go back to: Spain!

We both really fell in love with Spain back in 2018 and have been dying to return. And since it was my parents’ anniversary, we all went to Spain together over Thanksgiving.

And on this recent trip, we got to check out Madrid before going back to Barcelona. I was so excited to see a different side of Spain and explore the capital city. Plus, our hotel was absolutely lovely. If you’re looking for a four-star hotel in Madrid, look no further than the H10 Villa de la Reina!

H10 Villa de la Reina review

Neighborhood

This Madrid hotel is right on the Gran Via, making it a great place to stay if you want to be able to walk to a lot of different activities. I think the furthest we had to walk to one our sightseeing activities was under 30 minutes.

We also loved how many restaurants were nearby and sad we didn’t have enough time to visit them all and explore this part of Madrid more. Since we did go right at the start of the holiday season, we absolutely loved all the holiday lights and decor lighting up the Gran Via. I snuck up to my parents’ room as they had a balcony overlooking the Gran Via so I could see the holiday decorations from above.

Accommodations

We were booked into a Grand Deluxe room and it was very spacious and comfortable. Our room had a sitting area complete with a couch, desk, and coat closet (with a safe), and then we had a bathroom with a walk-in shower, and a sleeping area. The layout worked out well as one night I went to go lay down and Rick wanted to finish a movie that was on TV and he could do so without disturbing me.

The bedding and pillows were very comfortable and we had no trouble sleeping at the hotel.

Amenities

I’m not going to lie I really miss just walking in after a sightseeing and being able to pour myself a glass of cava, snack a decadent brownie bite, and head on up to our room. Each afternoon they would also put out complimentary water (both sparkling and still), the aforementioned cava, and some light snacks.

Lobby and the bar

Bar La Villa

The hotel also had a fantastic bar setup. There was the actual bar area but then plenty of cozy seating in the lobby. One night we were able to snag the couches by the fireplace and order some glasses of wine. Another night, Rick and I snagged a table for two and sipped some sangria. It had a very welcoming atmosphere and invited you to simply relax and hang out for a bit.

Breakfast at Las Infantas

The hotel does have a restaurant downstairs just for breakfast and it had a generous buffet spread. We were able to find a variety of eggs (scrambled, fried, hard boiled, quiche, etc.), fruit, cold cuts and cheeses, breakfast meats, beans, mushrooms, breads and pastries, cereals, and of course they had churros with chocolate. They also had coffee, juices, cava for mimosas, and water.

We definitely did not leave the hotel hungry.

Housekeeping

We never ran into our housekeeper but our room was always perfectly made up and we had fresh towels on hand. I also loved that we got a complimentary bottle of water each day that was waiting on our desk.

I’ll also say that the front desk staff was super helpful. They made check-in super easy, gave us recommendations, and always welcomed us back when we returned to the hotel. Everyone we encountered was professional and friendly.

Price

Luckily for us this trip was done by my parents so we didn’t have to pay for the hotels! Thanks, mom and dad!

But our room (a Grand Deluxe Reina) averaged out to $273 per night. That was booked with their winter sale promotion, as well.

Location

The location will either be wonderful for you or feel a little claustrophobic. It is right on the Gran Via so it’s centrally-located and makes Madrid feel extremely walkable. It was very convenient being near the things on our travel itinerary, and being able to easily locate our hotel at the end of the night.

There’s no shortage of nearby restaurants and shopping along the Gran Via. But that also means there’s no shortage of people walking the avenue either.

Now, I will caveat this that we went over Thanksgiving and into the holiday season. I do wonder how busy it would be right outside the hotel when it’s not holiday travelers or Black Friday shoppers. But we did have to battle the crowds to get in and out of our hotel, especially later in the evening. Not the hotel’s fault at all, but something worth noting if you don’t like weaving in an out of crowds to get anywhere.

And even being located on a busy street, we never really had any problems with noise or not being able to fall asleep.

The hotel is located at Gran Via, 22, 28013 – Madrid Centro.

This was a great hotel in Madrid and I’m glad we were introduced to the H10 brand as everything was lovely. The hotel, the staff, and overall quality. Next time we go to Spain, we’ll check out other H10 options as we enjoyed our stay.
