Review: Ameritania at Times Square

One of our travel resolutions of 2022 was to use our credit card points for a weekend away and we settled on New York City. Once we had flights booked it was time to find a great place to stay.

On our trip to New York City in early December 2022, we wanted to stay somewhere where we could pretty much walk everywhere and so we found ourselves looking around Central Park and Times Square and got a good recommendation from my sister of the Ameritania at Times Square.

Fortunately, it was available to book through Chase so we were able to use our points to cover our entire hotel stay. It was a great choice for our points redemption and served as an easy-to-get-to accommodation. Read on to see our review of the Ameritania at Times Square!

New York City’s Ameritania at Times Square hotel review

Accommodations

The hotel room was comfortable and had everything we needed. It was small but we weren’t planning on spending too much time in the room anyway. It felt very European in a way!

It had a spacious bathroom with a large walk-in shower, cozy bedding and a great mattress, plus good pillows, and the windows did a fantastic job of muting the sounds of NYC, plus the curtains did a great job of making the room dark for sleeping.

The room was comfortable and we didn’t hear much noise from the hallway or from our neighbors. For what we needed the hotel room for, it did its job.

Water and coffee station

Amenities

The hotel had valet parking, which we did not take advantage of. But they had several other amenities that were very nice.

Gym

The hotel does have a gym and while I would have normally made a visit to it, I figured we’d be walking enough in the city that I didn’t set aside time for it but it did seem decent enough for a workout.

Water and coffee

One thing I absolutely loved was the complimentary water and coffee. I know, it seems like a weird thing to love but I like having good water when we return to our room at the end of the night to take meds and just chug some water as I know I most likely won’t met my drinking goal for the day.

They had complimentary water bottles stocked in our room and had fresh, flavored water in the lobby area so we could refill our bottles before we left for the day or when we returned at night. They also had a coffee bar set up each morning.

Check-in & customer service

The service at check-in was great and quick and all the staff members we encountered were friendly and happy to help.

Housekeeping

Housekeeping stopped by each day to provide new towels and tidy up and replace our complimentary water bottles. They did a great job and were efficient.

Price

Our hotel stay was covered by redeeming our credit card points but the rates typically range from $130-$250 for the room type we stayed in, obviously fluctuates from weekday to weekend rates and around holidays. But, for the location we found it very reasonable as it was just a few blocks from both Central Park and Times Square.

Location

The hotel is located at: 230 West 54th Street, New York, NY, 10019.

Again, we booked here because it was in the neighborhood we wanted as we knew we were going to do a carriage ride in Central Park and go see some shows on Broadway, and wanted to be able to walk to most of our activities.

It’s also located right next to where they film the Colbert show, so that was pretty neat and makes it super easy to find!

Overall we were very pleased with our stay, though we would recommend taking ear plugs if you’re sensitive to noise as you are in a central location and the street traffic does carry. I was able to sleep without them as the windows do do a good job of blocking the noise, but I did sleep better with ear plugs. It was a clean, comfortable hotel and the location was ideal for wanting to explore south of Central Park and Times Square.
