Valentine’s Day gifts for travelers

love locks

It seems like January has 61 days instead of 31. It often feels like the month that never ends but now Valentine’s Day is right around the corner.

Flowers, candy hearts, and chocolate are favorite gifts for this romantic holiday. But if you’re looking for a special gift for your favorite traveler that can’t be immediately consumed or put in a vase, we have a few ideas for you!

These are gifts we’ve exchanged or wished for ourselves over the 10 years we’ve been together – and ones that celebrate our shared love of exploring the world together.

14 ideas for travel-themed Valentine’s Day gifts

Wall with canvas prints

Photos or prints

One of my favorite things in our home is our travel wall (which has expanded beyond the photo above). When we get home from a trip I order a canvas print of an Instagram picture taken during our adventure.

Another option for this style of gift could include a photo album, scrapbook, or shadowbox containing pictures, ticket stubs, currency, or postcards from the trip.

Pinnable travel map

Another travel-themed piece of art we have on our walls is our magnetic world map. We color code our trips as trips we’ve done together are tracked with red pins, Rick gets green, I get blue, and places we have trips planned to are in white. It’s a fun, colorful way to see our getaways across the globe and get excited for future adventures together.

Puzzles

Rick loves doing puzzles and gets a new one at Christmas. I’ve added to his collection by buying puzzles of our favorite travel destinations or even had custom ones made, like of our trip to Iceland that features a few different pictures from our time there. Puzzles can be an affordable gift and makes for a great at-home date night activity.

Bucket list journal

Rick has gotten me a journal where we can write down items on our bucket list, plan upcoming trips, and dream of getaways we’d love to take together. This journal had travel planning guides, advice on how to balance each other’s wants, and space to jot down notes.

Souvenir display cabinet

I collect shot glasses when I travel and a gift I got myself years ago was a shot glass display cabinet. While it doesn’t hold the entirety of my collection, it holds enough that I can rotate out older glasses for newer ones when we get home. I have my all-time favorites on display and I know they’re protected and clean.

We also put our wine stoppers on display (since my shot glass cabinet was full I moved onto collecting something else – wine stoppers).

Food or beverage subscription

“Love does enter through the nose,” quotes Frasier Crane. And food and drinks can bring back very visceral memories. There are so many options for food and beverage subscriptions these days related to travel so you can have yummy treats from Japan delivered right to your door, or continue trying new Italian wines and olive oils long after you said ciao to Italy. This is truly the gift that keeps on giving.

Cookbook

If you like the idea of eating favorite foods from your travels with your love but prefer to make it yourself, get a travel-themed or destination-specific cookbooks so you two can get busy (cooking) in the kitchen.

Complementary luggage tags

Get matching his & hers (or hers & hers/his & his) luggage tags. Whether you go classic with your names, a travel pun, or stamped with a map of your favorite city, these are cute little reminders of your shared adventures together as you depart on a new one.

Personalized passport holder

If luggage tags aren’t your jam, then opt for matching documents holders or passport protectors. Or, go in for a shared passport holder if one of you is the designated organizer of the trip.

“I’m with” shirts

Just don’t opt for the “I’m with stupid” version of these shirts. I’ve seen pictures of so many cute matching t-shirts themed for trips, Disney seems an especially popular destination to wear these babies.

These shirts can be great in case you get separated and let’s be honest, they can just be really fun and often funny. I’ve seen ones with “If lost return to First Name” and then the woman wears a shirt with her name on it. There’s the classic King/Queen, a beer glass and a glass of wine, Mickey and Minnie (or other famous cartoon pairs), or even both shirts have one half of a heart. The options are endless with this Valentine’s Day gift.

piggy bank

Adventure fund piggy bank

We have a piggy bank where we put spare change, birthday money, or extra cash to save up for a future trip. It’s a fun visual reminder that we have some budget and fun spending money when we hit the road next.

Bedding from your favorite hotel chain

We haven’t yet pulled the trigger on this one, but we’ve been tempted to buy bedding from our favorite hotel chains. There’s just something special about hotel bedding and you can recreate that inviting vibe at home (while knowing the last time those sheets were deep cleaned).

Kettle

Love the tea culture from other places you’ve visited? Get a kettle or tea set to recreate afternoon tea at home.

Staycation

Lastly, a staycation could be a great gift if you want to stay near home but also change things up. Book a night at a hotel, spa, or resort in your state or nearby state and sneak away for just a night or two without booking airfare and taking time off work.
