Review: Norwegian Air

airplane wing

Last year, Rick and I had saved up credit card points to make our flights to Europe super cheap, and we got the most of those points by booking flights with Norwegian Air.

Offering affordable flights, Norwegian Air is a great choice if you’re looking for a budget-friendly airline.

I still feel like people are surprised when we say how much we liked our flights with them as most flights with budget airlines are crapshoots. But honestly our flights with Norwegian Air were pretty great.

If you’re thinking of flying with them, check out our Norwegian Air review to better prepare for your flight.

Review of Norwegian Air

Flights

The thing we loved most about Norwegian Air were their direct flights! Having to do a layover and change planes makes your day of travel feel even longer and more taxing. Being able to fly direct from Denver to London was so nice.

We did have to do a little finagling with the days of the week they fly to/from London and Denver, and end up staying an extra night in London to catch our flight, but overall you can make their flight schedules work with yours.

  • Denver to London, Barcelona, Madrid, and Copenhagen: Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday
  • Denver to Paris: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday
  • Denver to Oslo: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday

The flights do arrive super early to London. We touched down around 6:30 a.m. So, prepare to fight some jet lag on your first day! My sister did the Paris flights and those arrive a bit later in the morning, so a bit easier to adjust to.

Prices

Total, we paid about $2,300 for our two round-trip tickets or about $1,100 per person, and that included our flights, seat selection, checked baggage, and meals.

Next time I’ll probably skip the meals, they were fine, but might be more economical just to bring our own food or snacks as we’ll be trying to sleep anyway.

In-flight services

We did pre-order meals for our flights, but we really liked their drink and food service where you could order it off the screen and then a flight attendant would come drop your snack or beverage off.

The entertainment was pretty standard with TV shows, movies, games, and flight maps.

Airplanes

The airplanes were well-done for an affordable airline. I’m used to Frontier who opted to put in the most uncomfortable seats imaginable in their planes when they switched to a budget line. But, Norwegian had comfortable seats and great tinted windows that you could control – instead of just the window shade.

Their overhead bins were roomy and large enough to accommodate bigger carry-on suitcases. I was pretty impressed with their storage space as a lot of airlines are making theirs smaller and smaller, but I could have easily packed my bigger suitcase and it would have fit just fine.

Customer service

Customer service was always quick to keep us updated on any itinerary changes and the gate agents and flight attendants were friendly and seemed happy with their work.

The only two complaints I have was first, our flight kept getting pushed back, pushed back, and pushed back after they had us all line up for boarding. So you felt like you couldn’t leave the gate while you had to wait for news updates. They finally got us moving but it was an annoyance.

The other complaint was on the return flight home when it was time for lunch, my row got skipped for drinks. Like they had the complimentary wine cart parked by the row in front of us and then took it away. They did make up for it by giving our row free champagne, but it was another awkward moment where we didn’t know if we should wait or if they just forgot us.

All in all, I wouldn’t hesitate to book another flight with Norwegian Air as for the price you pay, the value was fantastic as well as the convenience of a direct flight.
